People Matters | Tools and Procedures for Accessibility

This disabled-led training with Birds of Paradise is underpinned by an extensive knowledge of equality and access within the sector and offers practical guidance on how to work accessibly, particularly when planning activities and events. 

Participants will leave feeling more comfortable and confident in their interactions with disabled people. The knowledge, skills & tools they gain during the session will apply across all areas of their work and motivate them to make a positive change. 

What will you learn? 

In this three hour session you will learn about: 

  • Access Requirements Forms – what are they and how to use them 
  • Access Statements – what are they and how to use them 
  • Planning for Access – a step-by-step guide of things to consider when planning accessible activities and events 
Who is it for? 

This course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about disability equality, and create more inclusive, accessible environments within their work. 

The training overall was really good. Really well delivered, presenters in particular were very engaging. Session was delivered with good humour and individuals expertise and knowledge really came across.

Meet the trainer

Anna Richardson

Training Coordinator, Birds of Paradise Theatre Company

Anna started work with BOP in 2019 as a Youth Arts Consultant, delivering access audits and consultancy, before starting to deliver Disability Equality Training in 2022.  She was former Box Office Manager of the Traverse Theatre, and has worked in the box office at Summerhall and Warwick Arts Centre. Anna’s previous work has included working within box office, marketing, press, stage management, script consultancy, producing, and front of house. She has previously delivered access consultancy and disability equality training to clients including the National Theatre of Scotland, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, Disability Arts Showcase Network for the Americas and others.

Anna is also Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Policy Officer for the Scottish Government where she is working on the proposed Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Bill. In this, and all her work, Anna aims to use her lived experience of being disabled to promote disability justice and equality.
