Building Capacity, Developing Skills

Mihaela Bodlovic, 2022

Events for learning, sharing and collaboration across the heritage, arts and business sectors

A three-year-long initiative running from April 2020 – May 2023

Supported by Historic Environment Scotland

IMPACT SUMMARY

In April 2020, we launched Building Capacity, Developing Skills (BCDS). Supported by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) it offered a programme of networking, peer-to-peer learning, and training, delivered through regional and national forums and events.

This Development Initative created forums for cross-sector learning, sharing and collaboration across the heritage, arts and business sectors. It was developed to support all sectors, as they seek to find new ways of working as part of recovery and renewal from the coronavirus pandemic.

The BCDS programme strands addressing sector challenges and opportunities included:

  • Events for business and public sector professionals who wanted to learn about the benefits, value and return from establishing partnerships with the culture sector. This included sharing live case study examples of cross-sector partnerships that have received funding from the Culture and Business Fund Scotland.
  • Events for arts and heritage organisations who wanted to better understand what benefits, value, and return on investment the business and public sectors are seeking through partnership working with the culture sector. These also included sharing live case study examples of cross- sector partnerships.
  • Events that brought together the business, public and culture sectors as a platform for learning and exchange with a view to providing connections that lead to new cross-sector partnership working.
  • Networking and learning events for Chairs of heritage and culture organisations, which shared challenges and opportunities for more efficient cross-sector partnership working.

The Culture & Business Marketplace Scotland is a direct outcome of research conducted as part of this initiative.

This new tool will connect the culture and business communities and provide a mutually beneficial forum for businesses to grow and work within Scotland’s exciting cultural and arts sector.
